"I remember in SDS in particular, that, you know, here we were, all these hippie girls. We’d burned our bras a long time ago. We didn’t wear make-up; we wore jeans and beads and funky shirts and Indian clothes—we were hippies. I mean, we were the classic hippies. And we were very much involved in the movement. We were given responsibility—but whenever we were at a point where we had to eat, the guys would be sitting in the living room working on strategy and we’d be in the kitchen making spaghetti. I will never forget that... But I don’t remember it as being negative. I just remember it as being, Well, that’s what girls do."
